Community Update from Headwaters Outfitters
After two back-to-back major storm events, combined with increased traffic at our location over the years, our septic system has unfortunately failed and will need to be fully replaced.
Because we sit directly on the banks of the French Broad River, we take immense pride in doing things the right way—especially when it comes to protecting the river. This repair is not something we’re willing to cut corners on.
What this means right now:
• Our outfitter shop remains OPEN
• Fishing and paddling trips are running as scheduled
• We will be open daily starting at 8:00 AM
• Portable restrooms are available onsite
At this time, the following will remain temporarily closed until repairs are complete:
• Taproom
• Stonefly Coffee
• Food trucks
We are incredibly grateful to Transylvania County for their quick response and help getting the reopening process underway, and to Cash’s Grading & Construction for going above and beyond to support us during this time.
Like many in our region, we’re still feeling the ripple effects of Hurricane Helene—but we are committed to pushing forward, supporting our staff, and reopening fully as quickly as possible for the small businesses, partners, and community that make this place so special.

Join us tonight for Tuesday Night Fly Tying at Brevard Brewing Co.! 🎣🍻 Kevin will be teaching how to tie the Mopster pattern—an absolute must-have fly that works year-round. The chenille creates a lifelike movement in the water and acts as a strong attractor, setting it apart from typical mop flies. Use it as a dropper and watch rainbow and brown trout crush it! Tying starts at 6:30 PM and is donation-based. Don’t miss it!
