Fly Tyer Spotlight- Jim Cannon @jgcannon3 with @hendersonvilleoutfitters
Jim Cannon’s fly fishing journey began when his brother mailed him a fly rod and helped him tie his first (very imperfect) Hare’s Ear. The first cast landed a brook trout — and he’s been tying flies daily for over 25 years since.
A member of the Catskill Fly Tyers Guild, Fly Fishers International, and Hilltop Fly Tyers, Jim has demonstrated at The Fly Fishing Show and now hosts a weekly tying night at Trailside Brewing in Hendersonville with Hendersonville Outfitters.
A retired Navy Surface Warfare Officer, Jim now spends his time tying, teaching, and sharing his passion for fly tying — just six minutes from the waters of DuPont with his wife, Lisa.

Hailing from northwestern North Carolina, Peyton has spent the past six years teaching fly fishing and fly tying throughout the Triangle area, working across both freshwater and saltwater fisheries. From preparing anglers for success on their home waters to helping them gear up for destinations as far-reaching as Oman and Christmas Island, he brings a broad and practical depth of knowledge to the vise.
Peyton remains especially passionate about redfish and the coastal Carolinas — a focus he’ll be showcasing during his tying sessions at the Forks of the River Fly Fishing & Music Festival.
Peyton is also the newest member of the Southeast Specialty Outdoors group, proudly representing leading brands including Grundéns, Montana Fly Company, Hatch Outdoors, Thomas & Thomas, Cling Fishing Products, High N Dry, and Rising Fishing.

Hatchery Supported Trout Waters – CLOSED
Reminder that all NC Hatchery Supported Trout Waters are closed to fishing March 1 – April 3.
🎣 Opening Day is April 4 at 7:00 a.m.
Due to the impacts of Hurricane Helene and ongoing hatchery logistics, not all Hatchery Supported waters will be stocked prior to Opening Day.
The Upper French Broad River is listed as a fishery that will be stocked before Opening Day.
Please continue checking the NCWRC stocking schedule for updates.

Recordatorio: Todas las Aguas de Trucha Apoyadas por Criaderos en Carolina del Norte están cerradas a la pesca del 1 de marzo al 3 de abril.
